I have a friend that told me that he wanted to fly to Midway Airport and rent a car so he could go to a forest preserve in Du Page County near Chicago. I looked up train routes in Chicago’s METRA system and found out what I was looking for. I sent my friend information that he could get to the forest preserve by taking Amtrak’s Capital Limited to Chicago then walking one block north to the Ogilvie Station and catching the Union Pacific West to the Winfield, IL. station and walk six-tenths of a mile to the forest preserve. So much easier than flying to Chicago and then driving through a crowded city. And much cheaper!
I wish Ohio had a modern transportation system. Now as it stands we have just two options, walk or drive to where we want to go. I love visiting Chicago and enjoy the city's modern transportation options. So easy to get around without needing a car. There isn’t any place one can’t get to without trouble. If Northern Ohio had a train system like Chicago’s METRA conditions would be much improved.
Thanks for your work. My father was an RPO ( Rail Post Office) clerk for many years. His car was behind the coal tender and was on the Nickle Plate Road. He went from the LaSalle St. Station in Chicago to the Grand Central Station in NYC.
Trains, the only way to travel!
