1979.
A TURNING POINT.
A FUTURE WE CAN BUILD.

In 1979, the National Limited, an Amtrak route connecting Ohio communities including Columbus and Dayton with destinations from New York to Kansas City, made its final run through the state.

More than four decades later, the effects of that decision are still visible. But Ohio's passenger rail story didn't end in 1979.

Today, All Aboard Ohio is working to help write the next chapter through education, advocacy, and stronger connections between communities and decision-makers across the state.

Today

A Proud History

For decades, passenger trains like the National Limited, Shenandoah, Broadway Limited, and Three Rivers connected Ohio to cities across the Midwest and beyond.

A Turning Point

In 1979, Amtrak discontinued the National Limited, which connected Columbus, Dayton and other Ohio communities to destinations across the country. It marked the beginning of a long decline that would see most passenger rail service disappear from Ohio by 2005.

Communities Felt the Loss

Jobs, opportunity, and connection were harder to reach. Travel options shrank. Ohio's voice in regional transportation decisions grew quieter.

A Future
We Can Build

Today, Ohio has a real chance to restore passenger rail and reconnect our communities for generations to come.

ALL ABOARD OHIO: MOVING OHIO FORWARD

Ohio has an opportunity to write a different chapter.

Today, proposed passenger rail corridors, community partnerships, and renewed public interest are creating momentum that would have been difficult to imagine just a few years ago.

All Aboard Ohio works to educate Ohioans, engage decision-makers, and build public support for expanded passenger rail and public transportation across the state.

The goal isn't to recreate the transportation system of 1979. It's to help build one that better serves Ohio today and creates stronger connections for generations to come.
