After more than seven months of anticipation, the U.S. Department of Transportation has awarded $3.5 million in Corridor ID funding to advance the Boston-Albany rail corridor, a major step toward realizing the West-East Rail vision in Massachusetts. MassDOT’s Andrew Koziol confirmed to All Aboard Ohio back in February that the state had submitted its application, making this announcement a long-awaited milestone.

This marks the first Corridor ID grant awarded in several months under Transportation Secretary Duffy. The funding will support the development of a Service Development Plan for the corridor, which aims to connect Boston, Worcester, Springfield, and eventually Albany with enhanced passenger rail service.

Governor Maura Healey celebrated the news, calling it a win for regional connectivity and economic growth. For advocates like All Aboard Ohio, it’s a promising sign that federal investment in rail infrastructure is on track.
