Ohio Hub PlanAll Aboard Ohio is currently working to preserve and improve the limited Amtrak service we have in Ohio and the region. Additionally, we are spending a majority of our time, energies and resources to support the development of the Ohio Hub Plan.
Learn more about the Ohio Hub Plan here: The first steps in developing the Ohio Hub plan is to establish a 79-mph passenger rail service in Ohio’s Cleveland - Columbus - Dayton - Cincinnati (3-C) Corridor. State law requires the Ohio Rail Development Commission to pursue this route first. Studies commissioned by the ORDC show that all of the corridors in the Ohio Hub plan would feed each other from a ridership standpoint and depend on each other to be successful. The 3-C Corridor is the only Ohio Hub route that is entirely in the State of Ohio and has the population density to provide an immediate development impact on its own. However, the same studies show that it cannot remain an isolated route for more than a few years or its continued growth will be unrealized. No high-speed rail service in the world was developed without the pre-existence of a successful conventional-speed service. A successful conventional-speed service creates the ridership market, the supportive land uses around stations and the political constituency necessary to take the next steps toward high-speed rail. Furthermore, ridership surveys elsewhere in the U.S. show that there is a hierarchy of travelers’ needs and speed is not the most important factor. An average traveler’s needs are ranked in importance as follows:
1. Cost of the trip
3-C Corridor passenger rail service is not All Aboard Ohio’s only goal. In fact, we support passenger rail development on all of the Ohio Hub corridors. Since funds are and will continue to be limited for all rail needs statewide and nationwide, we desire targeted improvements to enhance existing Amtrak services and to make possible an increase in service quality and quantity.
